Full Version: [ANN] -- Ambrosia releases Deimos Rising 1.0.2

Ambrosia Software, Inc. has released a minor update to its Mac OS X-native, thumb-blistering action game, Deimos Rising. You can download the full version of Deimos Rising 1.0.2 here:

http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/dr/

If you already have Deimos Rising 1.0.1, you can update to version 1.0.2 by downloading a small application here:

http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/dr/addons.html

This update works ONLY if you already have Deimos Rising 1.0.1. If you don't, you'll need to download the complete 1.0.2 package. This update does not work with the Apple bundled version of Deimos (we're working on a solution to that currently). This update brings Deimos Rising up to 1.0.2, which fixes some bugs with the game controller implementation under Mac OS X, and has some other enhancements/changes.

Not quite good enough...

Does the new update make DR any easier? It's really damn hard. On the forth level, anytime you dodge an air unit, you run into the fire of a ground turret. It's almost impossible (to me, at least) to get past two turrets and seven spinny air things. If there were no air units around when you're trying to take out two or three turrets, it would be a lot easier.

pffffft deimos rising is crazy easy... oh wait, I beta tested...

I havent played for ages, but make sure to take out the ground units in DR, air units cant do nearly the damage of the ground, if you need to take out ground just keep rapid firing blindly while focusing on targetting structures and ALWAYS move ALWAYS, usually in a side-side strafe (new tactics past lvl 10 when it really gets into real difficulty,)

Yeah, I found in MR, at least, that you really have to prioritize your targets. Though that huge boss might be over there, just waiting to be licked and a treasure to be gained, you have to be sure you don't let the 3 rapid fire turrets slip by - they'll be the ones that get you. You also can usually clean the boss out before he leaves.

Attack the highest threat first - only common sense. You may lose a few bonus points, but you'll keep a life.

I guess some kinds of games aren't for everyone. I got to level 5 the first time I played Mars Rising, and level 3 on Deimos.

Hey, it took me two days to even get to the end of the demo on MR - you're not alone. I just had all this time to waste, so I wasted it. You get good if you want to. Deimos rising looks tough, and with a computer that doesn't slow down when there's 6 bad guys on the screen, I'll be in for a ride...

For comparison, I've managed to unlock every level except Carthage, which I haven't beaten yet. I once tried using the cheats so I could just see how it all ended; that idea busted up real fast - what's the point of the cheat command if it'll only give you one or two extra lives?

Will we ever get a level editor? Or do we have to try to figure out how the data is stored ourselves? I remember back when DR was under construction seeing some screen shots of a level editor... Having access to that would be really nifty.

And while I'm here: does anyone have any suggestions for how to deal with swarms of aerial craft while those immortal bricks are blocking your mobility?
Any suggestions on how to beat Carthage?

Level 28 is freakin hard, I had to use "L" to get there. The farthest I got was only to about 22.

Deimos is lots of fun though

Well, I dunno about DR - never played it. In MR I just go with the flow. At that point it is survival, not so much points. Just keep a clear path ahead and try to get out of the way.

Yeah, it's tough. I have this feeling that I actually had a significant advantage due to the slowness of my compuer. When thinks get real thumpin, the computer would slow down because of its 100 mhz processor. I think I'll have something else coming when I go back at it with 700 mhz...

DR is certainly pretty hard, but by now I still consistently get to the last level of the demo (and have beaten it once).

<edit> Incidentally, I haven't registered, and I don't think I will -- I couldn't get very far past the demo levels anyway. </edit>
