I got Galactic Battlegrounds the other day; a very cool game, if I do say so myself. Saying as the only other game in the genre that I've played is StarCraft, SWGB is really freakin' advanced. I'm also really digging the whole "help the Empire crush everyone else) thing. That's cool.

However, I'm wondering if there are any other people out there that I could play against. In addition to that, I'm wondering if there are any really effective strategies that any of you could share (for any of the races, really, but I've only messed around with the Empire and Wookies).

GR always has Galactic Battlegrounds games going on, so just get yourself a screenname and log on. The "Land Of The Lost Room" has a bunch of other people from the boards, mainly from Ares.

Yeah, I've got a GR account, but I'm by no means good enough to play random people. I'd rather play against people I actually know.

Wait for a Mac version of the Clone Campaigns expansion. The trooper creation speed (after research) for the Republic makes the expansion a worthwhile purchase.

<edit> I'm estimating the creation speed for the Republic's troopers at about 2.5 seconds.

I'll play you, in about 5-8 weeks, I'm getting a new eMac and games..., and on the 9th I just found out, around an hour ago, I have been chosin by Shaw to test a new type of internet connection, its spose to be faster than T1, but I'm sure its just T1 with a bit more speed plus unreliblyity, I'm considering telling them no, and sticking with the reg cable net...

That's why you make a friend first. I mean who isn't a "random" person you could play against? There are like, what, maybe 3 people that you have met from the boards... I say you log on, chat a bit with someone until you find somebody you like, and then play with them. That's what I'd do!

I'd still rather play against someone from here, as at least I can joke around with them on other boards after they beat me.

Also, I'm wearing of finding random people on GR because I've been accosted a few times by people that recognize me. And I don't like using aliases other than EVula (well, that one and one other), although I've got plenty.

I'm considering getting SW:GB-- is it good enough? Anyone have opinons? I like Alpha Centari, games like that- I got confused with Ages of Empires, which is a bad sign (demo- I think.) I'll probably get it, or should I just wait for Jedi Outcast? That I want. Badly.

I'll have it in a few days, and I'll make sure to post my GR name here. I love online massacres, even if I'm the one being massacred.

I know this a little late; but somewhat related to the topic:

Got the game, I love it.

Can anyone teach me how to do play it online? I'm not that good at it.

I've got the game, and it's good. I've sometimes tried to make my own scenarios (I'd love to see the OT gang fight the Empire on Naboo - and dethrone Grand Moff Binks! ) and I can't wait for the expansio, either.

God bless,

I got it. It's not so great. I mean, basically all it is is Age of Empires 1 with star wars units. The engine and gameplay are exactly the same as AOE 1. If you're a Star Wars nut, you'll like it. But it's nothing new.

As for playing online, the more you play, the better you get.

I'm not sure if that's the case. Consideinrg all of the liberties they have taken with the Star Wars universe as to make a an acceptable RTS, I'd think a lot of hardcore fans would be turned off to the game. I don't recall the Rebel Alliance relying on boats to ferry them around planets.

The standstill and fire fightercraft also irk me.

True enough. I just like having that little Wookie sound made every time I make a trooper.

However, when you are the Wookie Civ, and you make a Jedi, it should be a Wookie Jedi. Not a human. That bugged me. Wouldn't it be cool to see a Wookie with a light saber?
