Anybody feel free to post their favourite card games accompanied by a quick set of rules.

I'll start it off with a game called "Screw your neighbour".

Stuff needed: 1 deck of playing cards, paper, pen and 3-7 people

Object of the game: Get as many points as possible!!!!

1. Pick a dealer, the dealer must deal out seven cards to each player.
2. The "trump" for the first round is spades, the second round is hearts, the third round is clubs, the fourth round is diamonds and the fifth round has no trump. After you have gone through the entire order, you start at spades and go through the order again. (Look below for a description of what "trump" is.)
3. The dealer bids how many "tricks" he/she thinks he/she will win. (Look below for a description of what a "trick" is)
4. The person left of the dealer bids how many "tricks" he/she thinks he/she will win.
5. Everybody bids in order (left to right), until we get to the last person (the person right of the dealer), this is where the screwing comes in. The last person cannot bid something that would make the sum of all the bids in that round add up to the amount of tricks that will be played in that round (the amount of cards each person get). i.e. if three people are playing in the first round and the first bidder says he/she will win 2, the second bidder says 3, than the last person cannot bid 2 because 2+3+2=7.
7. The person left of the dealer begins play, they can play whatever the wish, players after must play in order (left to right), they must also play the same suite if they have it. If they don't they may play whatever suit they wish. Once everybody has played a card the trick is completed, the player who played the highest card wins it unless a trump card was played, if a trump card was played, than the player who played the highest trump card wins the trick. (Note: Aces are high)
8. The player who won the previous trick starts the next trick.
6. Once all the tricks have been played, people who won the amount of tricks that they said they would win get 10+the amount the bidded in points.
7. The next round, the next dealer deals 6 cards per person and the trump is hearts. The round is played with the same gameplay.
8. Once that round is finished, the next dealer deals 5 cards per person and the trump is clubs, after each round is finished, the dealers deal 1 less card until the round of 1 card is done, then dealers deal 1 more card each round until the round of 7 cards is done, then the game is finished. The trump rotates in the order described in step 2. (Note: the game can be shortened so that you only play down to 1, and not back up)

Well then, please list your favourite games and if possible, some rules so we can share the games .

Ditto.

BS, Egyptian Rat Screw, Speed, Speed Solitare, Blackjack.

The créme de la créme, even though it's not an actual 'card' game as we are describing here, is the Dragonball Z Customizable Card Game. I know, I know, you don't need to flame me about it.

This sounds pretty lame, but Go Fish is a fun game. Instead of matching up two cards however, you need to get all four before you have a pair. People are allowed to ask for any amount of cards, but if they don't get the amount the person has of those cards, they don't get any. If Billy asks Bobby if he has two 4s, but Bobby has three, he can say go fish.

Perhaps everyone already plays Go Fish this way. I never did, until last week. It's really fun.

That's silly. I agree that you should have to get all four cards, but asking for a specific number of cards doesn't sound any good to me. The way I play it you just ask for the card, and you get however many they have of them, be that 0, 1, 2 or 3.

That's the way I've palyed it all my life. I never knew that anyone played by getting pairs until last year. I didn't ask for a specific number of cards, though.

At your local Book & Game or any book store. I get them from Book & Game and a coin/card pawn shop. I currently have over 550 cards, 1600 if I include all my duplicates.

I'm surprised no one's said Hearts. I play it constantly; it's a favourite in the orchestra off-season.

I also learned to play Skat while in Germany this summer. It's hardly my favourite, but it's definitely the most interesting I've encountered.

Hearts is a great game.
I just learned a new game this summer called Thousands, I was told it is Polish, but I'm not sure about that. It's something like a variation on hearts.

I'm surprised more people haven't discovered this game; it's simply one of the best card games well, ever. Unlike a lot of other card games, you can play it with any number of people, and it's always fun. It makes for a good party activity, depending on what type of party it is.

Of course, the one problem with it is the fact that there are far too many names to call it by, so people don't know what I'm talking about when I mention it...

Chinese Poker
Big Two
Capitalism
Class Struggle
A--hole
to name a few...

[Edit]Got more things to say, don't want to double post:

Almost forgot -- Mafia is also a great game. Of course, it's not exactly a card game in the traditional sense.

There's also a variation of Hearts that my parents taught me (Chinese version, perhaps? I'm not sure). It's far more exciting because there are more special cards (though some may argue it's not as fun as the classic, plain old Hearts)...and a different scoring system.

The rules are essentially the same as Hearts, except the hearts count as negative their face value instead of one, the Queen of spades, the pig (as in hearts), is -100, and the Jack of the diamonds, the goat, is +100. The 10 of clubs doubles anyone's score, be it positive or negative, and if someone gets all the hearts, it flips everyone's score (multiply by -1). If someone shoots the moon (in this game, gets everything of value, including S-Q, D-J, and C-10, and all the hearts), they get +1000 points. If they get all the hearts, plus the pig and the goat, they get +500 points. If they get all the hearts and the pig, it's +300. There might be more combinations, but I don't remember them. You can decide whenever you want to end the game, because obviously, it doesn't end when somebody gets -100.

Hmm...I've been thinking of putting up a website of card game rules (I actually started a page of it, but never got around to finishing the thing)...it looks like there's interest in that.

[Edit again]
Found a website with the rules, though the scoring system differs slightly from what I know...

[Grr...Edit #3]
Yeah, I didn't read the page before posting. The variation it presents is almost identical to what I've played.

Mao, though for some reason no one else ever seems to want to play... (And no, I won't even attempt to summarize the rules here.)

Spades and Hearts as played by our local theater group. (Basically, add in several house rules to make the games longer and encourage more vindictiveness. Ever seen a game of Spades where all four players are attempting to go "low" simultaneously? )

Canasta is great fun, though it's tough to find others who know it sometimes.

Uno's a good party game.

Never been able to get the hang of Bridge.

It's all about A$$hole .

Stuff needed: A deck of cards, something to drink

Object: Run out of cards first

The way you play the game, is to go around the circle and put a card into the pile. The rule is that you must play a higher card than the person before you. A double is higher than a single, a triple is higher than a double, and four of a kind is higher than a triple. A two will clear the stack, and if you can't play, you have to take a drink. You are not allowed to match on the first round.

Example: rooster starts off with a single three. Battle doctor follows with a nine. CaptainTripps then follows with an Ace. Since there is no single card higher than an Ace, the next person will either have to play a double, or clear the pile with a two. Pikeman, the next player, plays two fours. painless is next in line, but she doesn't have anything higher than two fours. She doesn't have a two either, so she must take a drink of her vodka and Red Bull. The next player, Floozy, has a two, which she plays. The pile is cleared, and Floozy then puts down a single five.

The play continues around the table until someone runs out of cards. The first person out is the President, the next is the Vice President, followed by any intermediate positions which you can make up the names of, down to Vice A$$hole , and lowest of the low, A$$hole . Here's where the game gets fun. Anyone of higher rank can tell anyone of lower rank what to do. For instance, the President can tell everyone to take three drinks, and they have to do it. The Vice A$$hole can only tell the A$$hole what to do. See how it works?

The cards are dealt again, by the A$$hole , who gives him or herself an extra card. ( ) Play starts again. The ranks are still in effect. At this point, of someone wants to match a card, he may ask the President.

The play continues in rounds until everyone is too wasted to continue. As people get drunker and drunker, the things the players make each other do get wilder and wilder. One night some friends played, and I ended naked, with the A$$hole only being able to make animal noises and the President getting her feet massaged.

You can, of course, play this game with non-alcoholic beverages, but it's not nearly as fun.

So, yeah. I've heard this game called "Presidents" and a few other names too, and I've seen it played several different ways. But here's how we play it in good ol' Cali. Enjoy.

My favorite game would be pinochle. It is a slightly harder version of spades. The bidding is much weirder and you have a different type of card deck but that makes it more challenging. The basic setup is you have points in your hand that come from various card configurations. Most are runs or some pair of cards. Then you also get points for the number kings, aces, and tens you catch in the tricks. All in all an exciting card game that makes you think more than spades.

Surprisingly, despite my decaying ability to speak/read Chinese, I can. It says "I can't say Chinese" (though I'm not sure if the character for "speak" is the same as the one you have there...).

Hurrah! That is indeed what I was trying to say - it's about all I learned from my 1 semester of Chinese class. If I do indeed have the wrong character, please feel free to correct me.
