Full Version: Myst III boring?

I played through Myst when I was 10 and Riven when I was 12 both without a walkthru.
But I have had Myst III for six months and i've found it hard to get into.
It just doesn't consume your whole life and make you play for hours at a time like the first two games.

Has anyone else found this as well?

Myst is a strange series. There is no gray area. People either really like it or don't like it at all.
I was hooked by Myst's amazing graphics as soon as I saw them but now they are quite dated.
Some people don't like that nothing really happens and that the first game has virtually no story.

I think we all know about that

I'm going to have to diagree there, but I would like to point out that the huge backstory involving the D'Ni society and Atrus and his father was developed in the books (which were quite good)...there is story, we just don't know about it yet

yes, but when you play the game when it first came out before reading the novels(which i have done) it does seem to have no story.

I love the original Myst almost as much as I hate Real Myst. I haven't played Riven or Exile yet, but I have Riven and will play it soon.

I played Myst III late into the night until I finished. I love the series in every way. The stunning graphics and environment more than the challenging (or unchallenging, as I'm tempted to say) kept me in the game.

Yes. I feel like kicking the creators of RealMyst.
It didn't have the same feel about it.

Well, they advertised it as such, as I see it.

i think exile was the best of the series, personally, with the original being second and riven third, with realmyst coming up waay in the rear in last. i didnt like riven much(waaaay too much switching discs again and again and again just to solve one puzzle in one area), but realmyst is pathetic.

Don't go to school to learn that 2+2=4. If you do you're missing the point. Go to school to learn how to add, then figure out that 2+2=4.

OK, I haven't played REALMyst yet. Someone clarify what is so awful about it.

Well, the problem with it was that the 3d engine took away something. It jsut did not have the same feel of those colourful, surreal graphics. Everything looks too real.

I haven't played RealMyst, but I finished Riven, and am playing Exile. Riven has very good graphics, even by today's standards. It looks nearly real, and I do not think it looses any feel because of that... Then again, never played Real Myst, so I can't make a statement regarding that.
