What, in your opinion, is the most annoying characteristic you've ever experienced in a computer/console game release?
The first thing that comes to mind for me is the camera control in Mario 64. All too often, when I just want to face the camera forward, like the Z-button does in Zelda, I'll find that the camera won't move. In fact that camera always just beeps at me when I really want it to move. It sucks. It makes me mad. It makes tedious jumping jobs thirty times more difficult than they need to be because the N64 control stick is so cheap.
TA also comes to mine because of its pathetic single player campaign (the last mission didn't even show a picture when you beat it, and the story was amazingly uninteresting!), cross-platform network incompatibility, and the over 1 GB it took up on my poor hard drive because the expansion maps couldn't be stored on the CD.
Finally, Episode I: Racer was just crap. The enemy competition was abysmal. The graphics were behind the times. The pods moved way too slow. But mainly the competition was just bad; low detail, just marked a clock time to beat, etc. - and what's with those lame-o explosions? Never mind that fact that pods with more than two engines got the extras rendered in an extremely cheap way, the fact that the network options assumes internet connection, or that LA apparently decided that the Mac market was no good on account of substandard games not selling.

When a bunch or morons complained about the Gefjon route in Nova being too easy, they made the system completely unnavigable by any relatively new pilot file. The planets are now rediculously far apart, and the system has waaaay too many pirates.

That game turned me off to 3D environments.

idiots on bnet. oh, there's already a topic on that...ok...
I'd have to say the arcade vesion of Gauntlet Legends. in the arcade in Victoria, you used to have to constantly pump money into the machine (to buy itms or health, fot example), and your health went down over time, no matter what.
The constant battles in FF3 annoyed me too, when you were in the overworld map, but if you didn't do them, you didn't have enough xp to level so you could beat the bosses....I wouldn't have minded them so much if they weren't
every 3 steps!
One last thing...and I know everyone has experienced this at least once....Playing any form of multiplayer fps (first person shooter, for the uninformed), and coming accross a complete moron who obviously has some for of hack installed (because they always get headshots no matter what, or something similar), or they're just rude, calling you a "n00b/NEWB! lol!!111". Dunno, that just bugs me, and I know a lot of you are the same.

Are you sure you mean FF3 (and I assume you meant FF6)? Every 3 steps? Sounds more like Lufia: Rise Of The Sinistrals...
Although, that was a kick ass game anyway.

Game options or features that they try and pass off as cheats.
Like Star Fox Adventures. Cheats you need to earn to see like the Credits in the option menu (egomaniacs) Or black and white mode, eh, for people that dont wan't to mess with there TV options to turn down color. Or listening to english with dino subtitles. Listen to the music tracks in the sound menu... They are just not "cheats" and they devoted a whole maze area in the game just to activate them, alllll 4 or 5 of them.

In Starfox 64, the screen is STILL divided into quadrants even if only 2 people are playing. I only have one sibling and I HATE eyestrain, but do they care?.....no. This completely stinks because I LOVE dogfights. Ever try to have a dogfight in a space the size of an index card?
In many Final Fantasy games (including 7): that stupid HAND floating over your head. Yeah I can turn it off, but when I want to be reminded where my guy is on the screen, why must it be by some obnoxious, giant Mickey Mouse glove? Why not a cool arrow or a sword, or something? Grrr I hate that glove.

Maybe that was an exagerration..heh it was more like every 6 steps (at low levels) And yes, I meant FF3(6). At least in Lufia you could avoid the monsters (sometimes) in the dungeons (the overworld map was a pain though).
Both good games though.

In all of Pangea's games since nanosaur, iirc, the camera movement sucks. It points at you in the same direction no matter how long you hold down a movement key: you have to stop and wait for it to reorient behind you. This means when you're doing careful jumping and such, the slightest tap of a key will rotate you 90°. This makes some levels (slime boss and jungle bosses come to mind) extremely difficult.

The creature in Black and White. It was conceptually great, but it got in the way too much. Not to mention the game itself was buggier than a Mexican bar.

The most annoying feature in any game, has got to be the stupid mandatory tutorials that Nintendo puts in
all their games. The worst case was in Zelda 64 where you are
forced to re-read the instruction manual on screen, with no way of skipping through the text. God, it's like Nintendo punishes the people intelligent enough to read the instruction manual.
Ahh, this topic's got my blood pressure up again, I'm off to get my medication...

Try playing Black and White. Not only is the tutorial mandatory, it's also VERY LONG and VERY IRRITATING. This is coming from someone who has played through Zelda 64 no less than 6 times.

Wahoo - thought of another one!
Descent 3 is so buggy and prone to freezing as to be almost unplayable. For example, it freezes when you turn up the texture detail! The only way to get around this is to use a text editor on the preference file, which is thankfully very easy to do. In addition, the only resolution that works is 640x480. No need to ask me, I think, how fun it is to play on a tiBook with a radeon at 1024x768 when it freezes every time you have to go back to the menu or do just about anything.

Sorry for the late reply.
Well, when you're a skilled architect (such as myself), you
need diagonal dimensions to set the mood and impact of the room.

I'm more concerned with the inability to put windows on diagonals, but lack of diagonal furniture is a bitch too.
And what's this about being able to rotate only four times? Is there some law of rotation I'm not aware of?

You're joking right? Or are you using the Glide app? I guarantee you that the two freezes I mentioned are easy to reproduce. Normal play at 640x480 is only a little glitchy at times (or a lot at others), but quite non-freezing.

Heh, I've never had freezing problem either. I use the OpenGL on my (horribly crappy) 350 iMac with nil problems. You running into this in multi or single player?

Both. What version are you using? The believe the detail switch freeze was introduced in version 1.4.1, if I remember the version numbers correctly. I don't think the game's ever run flawlessly in a high resolution. In normal single player everything's usually okay, but sometimes it will all go glitchy with white blocks being substitued for textures all over the place and I'll have to quit and restart my computer to fix it properly. I suppose you could be one of the lucky people for whom the game runs fine, but I've visited several web boards devoted to Mac D3 and most everyone else has been experiencing the exact same problems as me.

Oh, and instead of running with a CD, I ripped the CD into a .img and use that to play. Could that have anything to do with it?
