I worked on Macs in college for graphics apps like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and Quark XPress for the college newspaper and we had a copy of EV on the server. Nothing ever got done! It's that addicting. The editor had to root it out and delete it to get us to work. </quote>

I'm addicted. Your shareware is sinister and wonderful, all at the same time. Thanks for a great game! </quote>

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOEYYYY!!!!!!! Escape Velocity is the BEST game Ambrosia ever made! It involves thinking, moving, buying, trading, killing, dying, landing, etc, etc, etc. Right now (on EV), I'm saving up credits to buy a ship, and get fighters, killers, flyers, thinkers, movers, buyers, landers, etc, etc, etc. </quote>

Escape Velocity is, in short, the most fun I've ever had with my pants on. Actually, it probably would be the most fun I've ever had with my pants off too, if only the "Hire an Escort" function worked like I first expected it to. ;-) </quote>

Thank you for making such a great game for the Macintosh! My wife and I are avid Mac and Escape Velocity fans. In fact, we liked it so much, we decided to change our last name to Velociteer a couple of months ago. Well, guess what? Three days ago I just found out my wife is pregnant! (Cigars for everyone!) Anyway, if it's a boy we're going to name him Patrick Escape. Well, what do you think? Beleive us, the honor is all ours, because of such a righteous game! Thank you so much! </quote>

Ambrosia's latest shareware game, Escape Velocity, is really cool. And it's only $20, which should shock everyone into paying the fee. I'd read about the game, so I knew it was going to be a little different than their usual, arcade revamps like Maelstrom, Apeiron, Swoop and Barrack. But I wasn't prepared for this. </quote>

This extraordinary game is a massively addicting release from Ambrosia Software, the folks who brought you classics like Maelstrom and Apeiron.

The premise diverges from ordinary arcade action by adding a wealth of role-playing and strategy elements. Players start out with a small shuttlecraft in a rather large universe and may follow any number of plot lines. Players may build wealth by trading commodities, watch their reputations grow as they complete missions, join a rebellion, protect the galaxy from pirates, or just fly around with banderfrogs in their cargo holds.

Overall, Escape Velocity is one of the best games ever offered as shareware and rivals many more polished (expensive) commercial products. Download it. If you're a gamer, you must have this one.

Ambrosia Software's claim to fame is providing updated versions of beloved arcade classics to Mac gamers. With their new game, Escape Velocity, Ambrosia is breaking out of the mold. EV promises to be a flexible, innovative game that will keep players coming back for more.

Escape Velocity is easily one of the best games I've laid eyes on. In addition, the game engine is open-ended; with a copy of ResEdit and a graphics program, any user can create their own original scenario. Because of this flexibility, many gameplay details may change before the final version ships.

Escape Velocity is one of the main reasons my dirty dish pile has become a now-sentient object it is (it pays half the rent). Escape Velocity is Ambrosia Software’s big hit from 1996 and one of the most popular shareware games ever to hit the Macintosh platform. </quote>

OK, so its not the flashiest game ever made, but being one of the most addicting games ever, every Mac owner, bar none, should have a version of Escape Velocity on their computer.

With so very few Mac games on the market, leave it to Ambrosia to fill the void. EV is great fun and infinately expandable. It's also only a five megabyte download, so go to our download page and get it right now. You won't regret it.

There always seems to be just one more thing to do, making it hard to stop playing. In fact, EV can be downright addictive.

While the game play and graphics are not quite cutting edge for the industry, they are certainly better than most shareware games in the same class. And what Escape Velocity lacks in dazzle, it more than makes up for in charm, with systems fancifully named after famous science fiction landmarks such as Arrakis and cheats based on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Simply put, Escape Velocity is awesome. It lacks the one advanced feature of other commercial game ventures -- head-to-head play -- and has a documentation system that is hard to access.

Escape Velocity has unequaled gameplay and longevity. And that's my criteria for a good game. At the very least, Escape Velocity is worth a look.

95/100

Explore the galaxy, fight off enemies, and make your fortune by establishing trade routes in this engaging science-fiction adventure game. This game pushes the envelope of shareware gaming, just as Maelstrom, from the same publisher did in it's day. </quote>

Ambrosia released what is possibly its best game- albeit in a different genre- Escape Velocity. Arcade elements and role playing combine to produce a sci-fi adventure game with days of play potential. </quote>

The universe of Escape Velocity is deep in civil war. As you float around silent space with your ship full of cargo, you encounter all sorts of adventures as you fuel up, drop off passengers, hire escorts, gamble at bars, and shoot bad guys. </quote>

Escape Velocity is, by far, the best shareware game that I have ever played. You download the game in its entirety, opting to pay the shareware fee only if you want to. Mind you, the shareware fee is $20, cheaper than anything you'll find in the stores and well worth it. </quote>

Maybe you want to play as a trader, neutral and friendly with everyone. Perhaps you want to ally yourself with one of the two major governments or one of the minor ones, or a corporation, and fight for their cause and carry out missions for them. Or you could be a Bounty Hunter and hunt pirates for a living, my personal favorite. You could even be a pirate, and prey on everyone else. Each choice provides for a very different gaming experience. </quote>

EV has excellent, often 3-D graphics the whole way through. And despite this, it runs smoothly on almost any machine, mine running it almost flawlessly. It requires little RAM, and isn't that huge of a game. One of the great things about EV is its expandability. It has the ability to read plugins, meaning you can change it easily. There are hundreds of plugins available, from adding new ships and missions, to making is Star Wars-esqe. You can add governments, or make a new super-weapon easily, and distribute it to anyone. There are a variety of programs available that let anyone create great plugins in a pinch. My favorite is EV Edit.

Well, you've read it! Now DOWNLOAD IT!! Its worth its wait in gold (get it?)! Keep going for great links, and the download area. </quote>

A Playable Classic! I've been playing some version of Escape Velocity since it was released in 1992. At one point, I obtained a low-end Mac LC just so I could continue playing the game after I moved to a (mostly) PC environment. This many years later, it's still fresh, it's still fun, and it's still memorable. It's a great game, and deserves the name "Playable Classic." If you try it, I'm sure you'll think so, too. </quote>
