Although Escape Velocity: Override is technically shareware, you won't find many games of its quality for even three or four times the price. The game's blend of high-speed action and mission-driven story lines makes for an addictive combination.
Macworld
Escape Velocity: Override is less a game that you play from beginning to end than it is something you play with. And like its parent company, it's simply the best at what it does–on any platform.

Really enjoyed playing EV. I am looking forward to EVO. And some of your other fantastic games as time goes by.

EV Override is addictive - didn't think I would be registering it so fast (you know, take my time, think about it, play it a little, see if I want to buy it) - but no, morning noon and night. Have you got FDA approval for distributing potentialy addictive hallucanogens (I keep seeing exploding Vonians and such)?

I'll be blunt; this is only the second shareware game I have ever registered in my life. The first was EV. While it would be easy enough for me not to pay (since I have a few planets paying me tribute, negating any raids by Captain Hector on my bank account), I feel guilty about not paying you folks. Anybody who can keep me occupied for so long deserves my money.

You guys make really good stuff. You deserve my money more than I do. :)

Loads of fun. I especially like how the plots are more complex than in v1.0.0 it's interesting trying to figure out who to be nice to at any given time. (I've got different pilots who are at allies with the different groups—tough to keep straight sometime.) Keep up the good work and keep the mac faith!!

Great game! I like the way you get to choose how you interact instead of having another space opera shoot 'em up or galactic conquest clone.

OMG! He took my credits!!! I must register to make him stop!!! OMG!!! Great game guys (and gals?). Kudos.

E.V. Override is one of the coolest games I've ever played.

This game is great for all ages. I put it on the computers at the daycare where I worked and the kids loved being turbo-charged with the "Supercheater" plug-in (despite having to help some of the 2nd grades and below with the movement commands). My fellow workers and I (of course during our breaks) enjoyed trying to survive and gradually build up our forces.

I attribute the inordinate amount of time it took me to actually *finish* college to EV. Then came Override.

This is a truly excellent game. From the beginning, the game is what you make it out to be.

Escape Velocity: Override is an excellent and inventive game from Ambrosia Software, makers of of some of the finest shareware available for Macintosh.

It's Escape Velocity. It's bigger and more flexible but - at the core - it's EV. Fans of Escape Velocity, especially those who have registered, should be just as pleased with Override. It's well worth the price of an upgrade.
It may even rekindle your interest if the original had gotten a bit old for you. If EV didn't grab you, I don't think there's anything here to make you rethink that opinion; it's not EV3D or anything like that. For those who have never played Escape Velocity, I'd call Override well worth the download. It was and is a good mix of action and strategy.

When you’ve made enough money, you can trade in your Chevette equivalent for a ship with better armor, cargo capacity, and firepower. With more cargo space, you can make even more money and trade up to an even better ship. So, the game scales nicely with your proficiency level.
MacHome
The missions here are a lot better than those in the original. You can work for any alien race you want, including Renegades, Igrazda, Emalghia, and Earth. Money flows like water in these, with none of the stinginess in the first game. Some missions give fantastic weapons: such as the sweet plasma siphon from a mission for the Igrazda. As time goes on, they get even better, and before you know it, you're a fully fledged member of about ten organizations!
MacNN.com
I must say that the game is just about perfect. Ambrosia took all the things that made the original so great and left them as they were. The controls are the same, the combat is untouched, and the planetary mechanics are just as they were when we last saw EV.
What is changed is the universe. And, boy, is it great. it's friggin HUGE! There are hundreds of systems, literally.

EV Override puts you smack-dab in the middle of a booming galaxy. As the captain of a shiny new spacecraft, you make your fortune and build your empire. If that sounds like a walk in the park, you're in for a surprise—dangers abound! Your lowly shuttle craft will need more than a little luck to make a profit…and survive.
Total MacShareware
Don't be surprised if this game takes up many hours of your time, as you get more and more involved in the adventure.

The game features 250 new missions, tons of new planets, and new graphics. Override will keep you busy doing nothing for hours.

EV: Override is worth every minute of its 8-megabyte download. Just remember to be ready for anything that first time you try to disable another ship to loot its cargo. You never know what you'll run into.
