Multiwinia is a multi-player real time strategy war game unlike any other. A chaotic war is raging in a fantastic fractalized world populated by bloodthirsty little stick men with a mission: follow your orders to annihilate their enemies. They will do your bidding no matter what the cost: order them to take that hill, flank the enemy or run screaming towards the flame turrets. The Multiwinians are bent on destruction, and if a few hundred of them have to be incinerated to get that flag, so be it!
While Multiwinia shares its rendering engine with Darwinia, there the similarity ends. Multiwinia is all about gaming with new friends online and doing whatever it takes to blast them to bits.
Multiwinia has 6 furiously-paced game types with 40+ maps to choose from, online or in single player mode. You must keep track of the entire terrain, as each map offers opportunities for sneak attacks, and there are power-ups that can change the game in an instant. To claim victory, balance battle rage with strategy, advancing on your enemies while protecting vital spawn points to keep your stream of new recruits flowing.
Domination
Put away your Patton battle field guide, and take a page out of the book of Genghis Khan! Play against your opponents and the clock - capture as many bases as you can before time runs out.
King of the Hill
Outnumber your enemies in as many zones around the map as possible, for as long as possible. Points are awarded by the second, but be careful - concentrating your soldiers in one location makes them vulnerable to potential WMD attacks. Nine challenging maps make for endless ways to win. Or lose.
Capture the Statue
Giant statues are placed at various points of the map. Your Multiwinian troops, while tiny and two-dimensional, are charged with hoisting the statues and carrying them over uneven terrain back to your spawn point - all while taking enemy fire. Grab as many statues as you can, then use guerilla warfare to cripple your enemies.
Assault
When you look at the description of this challenge, "Assault a heavily defended position and capture a WMD before it detonates and everybody dies," it looks like a slam dunk. Note: the gun turrets that define "heavily defended" have a way of quickly reducing even the biggest attacking horde into dust in a matter of seconds.
In the above image, red dots mark the place where two dozen or so Multiwinians just were. The shrinking swarm of remaining Multiwinians represents the place where an equal number of red dots will be in a few seconds, thanks to the gun turrets.
Blitzkrieg
Classic Capture the Flag, Multiwinian-style. Crush your enemies one after the other, but remember the possibility of retribution, even from those you obliterated.
Rocket Riot
Your mission is threefold - outrace your opponents to gain control of the solar panels that will refuel the rocket that waits to carry your Multiwinians out of the war zone. Protect your rocket from the enemies and once your rocket is fueled, load it full of your troops and blast off!
Introversion released the Windows version of Multiwinia in September 2008, so there is a thriving community of gamers already established. Now it's time for the Mac gamers to enter the fray and let them know that the turf war between Mac and PC has just found an all new fractalized war zone!
Multiwinia for Macintosh will be available for PowerPC and Intel Macs running Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later.
