What is the box of static supposed to be at the main menu?

Originally we intended it to be a stereogram, one of those optical illusions. Supposedly, if you stare hard enough, you will see an image.
We never could get it to work but released it anyway. For a while we told people it was in fact a working stereogram, and folks reported the strangest things, but the joke is over. No, there is no picture of Elvis anywhere in Apeiron.
