How can I pause or abort a game?

The caps lock key pauses Ares while you are in the middle of a game, allowing you to take a breather or switch out to another application if you desire. To resume a game after you have paused it, simply press the caps lock key again.
To quit the program quickly press command q. This will exit Ares and return you to the Finder.
