Why do I get a -7001 error when I try to save my movie?

Last Updated Jul 27, 2010

The -7001 error indicates that the capture is corrupted and can not be converted. The most common cause of this is when the recording is interrupted due to insufficient disk space. Vital information required to render out the file is written at the end of the file. When a capture is interrupted, this information is missing and therefore it can not be used. As a result the video can not be recovered. You may be able to salvage the audio by disabling the video track on save dialog.

Snapz Pro X 2.2.3, released July 23, 2010, added some safeguards to prevent a capture from being lost due to lack of disk space. You can also change the scratch disk location. The current version of Snapz can be downloaded here. We also recommend using our calculator to get an idea of how much space is needed before beginning a capture.
