Why was Swoop written?

I (David) grew up with Galaxian, Missile Command, Tempest and a few zillion other arcade games. I used to dream of owning my own machine. Swoop was created in order to put a high quality game from the early '80s vertical shootemup genre on the Mac. It's dedicated to all those other kids who used to wish that they'd grow up to own a video arcade in their bedroom.
