Is WireTap Anywhere compatible with OS X Lion, 10.7?

Last Updated Jul 11, 2011

The current version of WireTap Anywhere is not fully compatible with Mac OS X Lion, 10.7. Changes in the latest Mac OS will prevent you from capturing application specific audio. You can continue to route all Mac Audio and/or your input devices.

We are investigating potential solutions, though it's not simply a compatibility issue, and it's not as simple as it might seem. We do have a solution that will work, but:

1) Apple wouldn't allow it in the MacAppStore
2) It won't work with applications that are "sandboxed"

#2 is something that Apple is going to start requiring of applications submitted to the MacAppStore, starting in November.

So what that means is that even if we had our solution working on Lion, seemingly random applications would stop working with it, including Apple's own when they get around to sandboxing them, like Safari, iTunes, etc.

Lion reflects a shift in Apple's goals, they are making it much more "locked down", and now that they own the key to the gate in the MacApp Store, it seems prudent to try to work with them rather than fight them on a solution. We will update this FAQ as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience.
