Why is the audio from my USB microphone garbled?

There have been reports of an Apple bug affecting users with USB microphones (OS 10.5 and 10.6). Those affected report the problem begins after about 20 minutes of use, causing all audio coming from their USB microphone to be garbled with a "robotic static sound quality.

This bug has been reported directly to Apple and is awaiting a solution. More information can be found on Apple's discussion boards.

Some workarounds and suggestions:

• Use a non-USB microphone
• Keep your system software up to date for when Apple fixes it
